A 24-year-old photographer, Chandan Bind, was stabbed to death in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, after he allegedly made a married woman’s photos viral on Instagram.
The woman’s brother, Surendra Yadav, and cousin, Rohit Yadav, have been arrested in connection with the murder. According to police, the two accused lured Chandan to an isolated agriculture plot on the night of March 18, where they stabbed him multiple times and dumped his body in a wheat field.
The body was discovered five days later on March 23. A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and a case has been registered under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.
According to Circle Officer Mohammad Faheem, Chandan was in contact with the married woman, who is Surendra’s sister, despite her marriage. He allegedly made her photos viral on Instagram, causing tension in her in-laws’ family.
The police official stated that Surendra pretended to befriend Chandan on Holi and used someone else’s phone to lure him to the isolated field. There, Surendra and Rohit ambushed and stabbed him to death.
Chandan’s father, Shyam Bihari Prasad, filed a complaint stating that the accused took his son from home, killed him, and disposed of the body. Police arrested Surendra and Rohit on Monday, and both confessed to the crime.
The police have recovered three knives used in the murder. The incident highlights the dangers of online harassment and the consequences of taking the law into one’s own hands.
