BJP Leader Suspended for Seeking Ban on Mohanlal Starrer ‘L2:Empuraan’

The BJP has suspended one of its leaders, V V Vijeesh, from primary membership for violating party discipline. Vijeesh, a district committee member, had moved to the Kerala High Court seeking a ban on the screening of the Mohanlal starrer movie ‘L2:Empuraan’.

According to Thrissur City District President Justin Jacob, Vijeesh’s suspension was announced due to his violation of party discipline. However, it remains unclear whether the party’s decision was directly related to Vijeesh’s plea seeking a ban on the movie.

Vijeesh has accepted the party’s decision and clarified that his decision to approach the High Court was a personal one. He further stated that he would proceed with the legal proceedings. Vijeesh had filed a petition against the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Film Certification Board, the crew of Empuraan, and the State Police Chief.

In his petition, Vijeesh accused Prithviraj, the director of Empuraan, of continuously insulting the central government through his films. The movie, which was released on March 27, 2025, has been making headlines for its controversial storyline and political undertones.
