Rs 1 crore seized from car trailing CM’s convoy

Cash worth 1 crore was seized on from a vehicle of a top Badri Rai company official following the convoy of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at a checkpost in Longding, Arunachal Pradesh.

Conrad Sangma was on the way to Longding to campaign for NPP candidate. Polls for both Lok Sabha and Assembly will be held simultaneously on April 19.

Badri Rai company executes many projects in Meghalaya, including the construction of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building.

When contacted, the Superintendent of Police, Longding, Dekio Gumja said on phone that the car belonging to Harshavardhan Singh, who is the executive director of Badri Rai company, was following the convoy of the chief minister.

“Officially, the car was not part of the official convoy but it was following the convoy”, the police officer added.

The seizure of Rs 1 crore was made at Kanubari checkpost in Longding from the fortuner car (AS-01-ET-5252).

Media reports said that the initial claim was that the cash was meant for the construction workers but the income tax department will initiate a probe.

The Election Commission of India prohibits carrying of cash above Rs 50,000 during the model code of conduct.
