KOLAR: With a series of festivals coming to an end with the Dasara celebrations, the prices of flowers have seen a sharp drop, forcing farmers to destroy standing crop.

Stung by the falling prices, flower farmer in the district are themselves uprooting the crop which is ready for harvest at Hulibele village in Bangarpet taluk. Byre Gowda, who had cultivated chrysanthemum, has uprooted the plants on the farm due to the low prices.
Ever since the Shravana month began, the prices have seen a downward trend. Farmers, who had invested lakhs of rupees, are now forced to discard the flowers owing to unviable market prices.
