A BJP woman worker was allegedly attacked with acid in West Bengal. The 50-year-old party worker, a resident of Bhagwatipur in Chanditala, sustained serious burn injuries has been undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The incident took place on Friday night at her residence. The assailants also allegedly attacked her house.
The woman, who worked as BJP booth agent during the panchayat elections, alleged that goons backed by the ruling Trinamool Congress had been harassing her and also attacked her house several times. The victim said the despite her complaint, police did not take any action against them. She said that because of the constant harassment, she even tried to set herself ablaze in the past.
Meanwhile, the TMC rejected the woman’s charges and said that it has nothing to do with the incident. It said that incident took place due to the internal bickering within the BJP.
Taking note of the incident, National Commission for Women (NCW) constituted a two-member inquiry committee to probe the alleged incident. The panel will inquire into the circumstances, leading to the incident and the action taken by the authorities.
