NEDUMKANDAM: A woman who tried to commit suicide in heartbreak over her house getting attached by the bank, died on Saturday. The deceased was Sheeba Dileep (49), a native of Asarikandam, Nedunkandam, Idukki. Sheeba suffered 80 per cent burns and was undergoing treatment at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital.
During the bank procedure on Friday, Sheeba poured petrol over her body and set herself on fire. The woman police and SI who tried to save the housewife were burnt.
The incident happened yesterday afternoon. After the court verdict, when South Indian Bank employees came to the house for confiscation process, Sheeba poured petrol and set it on fire.
Sheeba was admitted to Kottayam Medical College with 80 percent burns. Ambili, a female police officer who was injured during the rescue operation, was also admitted to a private hospital in Ernakulam. They had more than 30 percent burns.
The previous owner had taken a loan by mortgaging 13 cents of land where Sheeba and her family now lived. Sheeba bought this land from the previous owner in agreement to pay Rs 15 lakh out of this. It is reported that the bank officials approached the court and obtained a foreclosure order while the settlement efforts were ongoing.
