Unaccounted cash worth Rs 23.7 crore seized ahead of the Lok Sabha elections

Mumbai – Ahead of the General elections, Maharashtra Election Commission has so far seized unaccounted cash worth Rs 23.7 crore across the State following the implementation of code of conduct. Various operations across the State have also led to the seizure of alcohol, narcotics, and other valuable items.

The highest amount of Rs 3.59 crore was seized in the Mumbai suburbs, followed by Rs 2.08 crore in Mumbai city and Rs 1.61 crore in Nagpur. All these funds are currently being collected by the Income Tax Department, and a legal investigation is underway.

Illegal alcohol worth Rs 14.84 lakh was seized in the State. Largest volume of illegal alcohol, worth Rs 1 crore was confiscated in Pune. Additionally, 66,878 litres were seized in Nagpur, 349 litres in Mumbai city and 20,664 litres in the suburbs.

The Election Commission has seized a total of 6,99,979 grams of narcotics in its statewide operations so far. The highest amount, 1,09,585 grams, was collected from Raigad, followed by Mumbai city and its suburbs.
