Karnataka police dog runs 8 km, saves women’s life
Police dog named Tunga 2 played a major role in both saving a woman’s life and tracking down a suspected murderer im Davanagere of Karnataka. On July 18th, a patrol team discovered the body of a man on Bada Road near a petrol pump in Santhebennur, Channagiri taluk, and promptly alerted their superiors.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Uma Prashant deployed Tunga 2, a Doberman, along with her handler, Constable Shafi, and other police personnel to the scene. The dog sniffed the jacket of the victim and immediately set off towards Channapura.
Despite heavy rain, Tunga 2 and her handler ran non-stop for eight kilometres. The dog finally stopped at a house where loud commotion was heard. The police entered the house to find a man, Rangaswamy, brutally beating a woman named Roopa, who was on the verge of losing consciousness. Tunga 2’s timely intervention prevented her death.
Upon further investigation, the police discovered that Rangaswamy was the suspected murderer of Santosh, whose body was found earlier that day. Santosh, 33, from Santhebennur, had been killed with a machete by Rangaswamy on suspicion of having an illicit affair with his wife.
Tunga 2’s heroism not only led to the rescue of Roopa but also ensured the capture of a dangerous criminal, highlighting the invaluable role of police dogs in law enforcement.
