Hindu Teen Girl Kidnapped, Converted to Islam; Court Refusal to Send With Parents

A Pakistan court has refused to send a 14-year-old Hindu girl with her parents. She was kidnapped and forcibly converted to Islam and married to a Muslim man. The teen, identified as Suhana, was kidnapped and sent to the Qazhi Ahmed Taluka of Sindh’s Shaheed Benazirabad district by her tutor, Akhtar.

Speaking about the incident, the 14-year-old girl’s father, Dileep Kumar, said that three armed men – Akhtar Gabol, Faizan Jat and Sarang Khaskheli – entered their home, looted gold ornaments, and kidnapped Suhana at gunpoint. Although Kumar has lodged a police complaint, he has no hopes of getting his daughter back, since the police have claimed that Suhana converted and married of her own will.

The girl was abducted and forcibly converted to Islam and married off to a Muslim man. A video of this relationship was also made. Five days after the abduction, the girl made a video of her crying on social media. Later, the family took action and took the girl into custody from one of the houses. He was produced before the District Court. Although she wanted to go with her parents, the Pakistani court refused to send her.

Cases of forced conversion of Hindu girls and married women continue unabated in Pakistan. Hindus in Pakistan are primarily concentrated in Sindh province, where the majority of Hindu enclaves in the country are found.

According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Muslims account for about 96 per cent of the country’s 207 million population, while Hindus account for 2.1 per cent and Christians about 1.6 per cent.
