ACP shoots dead wife and nephew, dies by suicide

Amaravati Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) on Monday killed his wife and nephew before dying by suicide in Maharashtra’s Pune city. Suspect identified as Rajapeth Division Amaravathi ACP Bharath Gaikwad.

This incident took place at his bungalow in Baner area around 3:30 am. The ACP Bharath Gaikwad shot his wife in the head, a news agency quoted an official as saying.

He further said that his son and nephew came rushing when they heard the noise. Then, the ACP shot his nephew in the chest and, shortly after, died by suicide. He shot himself in the head.

The trio died on the spot. Gaikwad’s wife Moni Gaikwad was 44 years old while his nephew Deepak was aged 35. Information about the incident was given to the police by their family members. Upon reaching the spot, police took them to a nearby medical facility – Jupiter Hospital – where they were declared brought dead.

More details are awaited in the matter as an investigation is underway.
