In a bid to instill a sense of valour and indomitable spirit within the Hindu community, plans are underway to erect a towering 100ft statue of the revered Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the city of Agra.
This monumental tribute is poised to celebrate Chhatrapati Shivaji’s bravery and unwavering resolve, serving as an inspirational emblem for generations to come. The chosen site for this magnificent statue is Kothi Meena Bazar, with ambitious aspirations to transform the area into a thriving tourist hub.
Simultaneously, a momentous journey spanning 1250 kilometres, known as the Garun Shab Yatra, commenced from Agra to Pune. This journey is an homage to the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji, a testament to his enduring influence and valour. Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, highlighted the accord reached to erect the statue, heralding the imminent initiation of tourism-oriented activities.
The historical significance of Agra is further enriched by its association with Chhatrapati Shivaji’s release from captivity under the rule of Aurangzeb on the 17th of August, 1666. This pivotal event is commemorated as Memorial Day by his descendants. The Garun Shab Yatra, a poignant observance, is set in motion in honour of this milestone, capturing the essence of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s journey.
As the yatra traverses its path, it will be greeted with a gentle cascade of flower petals at multiple points across the Agra region. This heartfelt gesture symbolises the collective reverence and admiration for Chhatrapati Shivaji’s legacy. The chairman of the initiative, Dr. Vatsalya Upadhyaya, affirmed the warm welcome that awaits the yatra as it makes its way through this historically rich terrain.
