A 28-year-old youth, Iyadan Shanid, from Maikave in Kozhikode, lost his life on Saturday after swallowing a packet of MDMA. Shanid had previously been accused in drug-related cases.
According to Thamarassery Police, Shanid ingested a packet containing 130 grams of MDMA when he spotted the police, in an attempt to evade arrest.
Police officials took Shanid to the hospital on Friday, where he confessed to swallowing the packet. Despite medical treatment, Shanid passed away at Kozhikode Medical College.
The exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed and will be determined through a post-mortem examination. The hospital authorities stated that it could be due to the presence of plastic in the stomach or an excessive amount of drugs entering the body.
The incident is under investigation by the Thamarassery Police, who are looking into the circumstances surrounding Shanid’s death.
