10-year-old girl gets ‘married’ days before dying of cancer

The parents of a 10-year-old girl from North Carolina in the US helped her fulfill her dream to get ‘married’, days before she died of cancer.

Emma Edwards and her beau, Daniel Marshall Christopher “DJ” Williams, Jr, tied the knot in a mock wedding celebration on June 29, just 12 days before Emma succumbed to leukemia, reported the New York Post.

Emma was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in April 2022. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow, with children being the most critical health.

The parents of the young bride, Alina and Aaron Edwards, had hoped she would overcome the cancer. However, Emma’s parents received the news in June that her cancer was incurable and that she had only a few days left to live, as per the report.

In response to this turn of events, both Alina and DJ’s mothers sprang into action, organizing a mock wedding for Emma. The wedding was arranged in less than two days, with everything, including the venue and supplies, being generously donated by the community, according to the New York Post.

“It was so precious, and it came together so well. Her dad gets to say he gave her away. A friend of ours officiated, a friend read a verse from the Bible, and her best friend was maid of honor,” said Alina, as quoted by the New York Post.

According to Emma’s mother, she had appeared to be a healthy child until last year. It was when she fell over that her parents took her to the hospital, and doctors discovered the cancer in her leg bones. The cancer had already caused significant damage, eating holes in her bones and weakening her.
