Thrissur: Two mahouts have been suspended after being accused of brutally beating an elephant named Krishna at the Guruvayur temple.
The incident came to light through video footage that surfaced on Thursday morning, which depicts the mahouts subjecting the elephant to a brutal beating during a daily ritual at the temple. It is believed that the incident occurred approximately two months prior to the emergence of the footage.
The chairman of Devaswom has ordered an investigation into the matter, seeking a detailed report on the incident. The elephant was offered to the temple by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha.
On november first week, An elephant gored its assistant mahout to death in elephant camp of the Guruvayur Devaswom. The deceased was identified as A.R. Ratheesh. The incident occurred when Ratheesh was giving water to elephant Chandrasekharan.
