Tired of being harassed by senior officials, A private company employee committed suicide, the video was uploaded to YouTube

Bengaluru: An employee of a private firm in Bengaluru died by suicide after he alleged his colleagues of harassment at the workplace, officials said Wednesday.The deceased Vivek Raj, 35.

He committed suicide by making a video on his mobile phone and uploading it to YouTube. He surrendered after making a long video about who was harassing him.

Police arrested Nitish Kumar, one of the suspects, while two others – Malathi SB and Kumar Suraj – were at large. According to the police complaint, Raj was constantly abused by Nitish and Malathi because of his caste ever since he joined the firm. Despite informing Suraj, the Vice President of Human Resources (HR), no action was taken, the complaint noted.

Vivek Kumar was working in Lifestyle Pvt Ltd which is part of Landmark Group. The deceased Vivek alleged that three senior officers were harassing him during work and he decided to commit suicide as he got tired of being harassed by these three, Vivek Kumar uploaded a video on his mobile and uploaded it on YouTube.

A complaint was filed at the Marathahalli Police Station on June 3, 2023, following which a First Information Report (FIR) was registered under Sections 3(1) (r),3 (1) (s) of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Investigations are on to find out the whereabouts of the two other accused, police said.
