Mridanga Naadam Guinness World Record: Organisers ‘charge’ ₹1600 for sarees priced at ₹390

Allegations are mounting against the organisers of the Mridanga Naadam dance event at Kaloor Stadium during which MLA Uma Thomas fell from the stage sustaining severe injuries.

The organisers are allleged to have sold the sarees provided for the event at a significantly inflated price. According to reports, the organisers (Divya Unni) had ordered 12,500 sarees from Kalyan Silks, which were designed and delivered in a short period of time for the event. Initially, the sarees were sold to the organisers at ₹390 each.

However, it was later revealed that the organisers had sold them for ₹1,600 each, sparking accusations of price gouging.

Kalyan Silks, which had provided the sarees, has since expressed strong disapproval of the situation. The company, known for its transparent business practices, voiced its dissatisfaction over the misuse of their products for such inflated pricing.

The controversy deepened following an incident during the event, when MLA Uma Thomas fell from a makeshift stage at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, resulting in injuries. Reports also surfaced that the organisers had conducted the event without proper permission and had collected ₹3,600 from the dance students participating in the event, leading to further scrutiny of their actions.

In response to the incident involving the MLA, the police have filed charges against the organisers, including non-bailable offences, and a case has been registered against the key figures behind the event.
