Huge gold bust at Kochi airport; Customs confiscates gold worth Rs. 50 lakhs

Ernakulam: A substantial gold seizure took place at Kochi International Airport as customs authorities seized gold worth Rs. 50 lakhs. The seized gold was in the possession of three individuals.

One of the apprehended individuals, His Ham Marshad, a resident of Kozhikode who arrived from Bangkok, was taken into custody based on a tip-off provided by the DRI unit from Kozhikode. Marshad was attempting to smuggle 500 grams of gold, with a market value of Rs. 26 lakhs, concealed within his socks.

In separate inspections carried out by Customs officials, 216 grams of gold worth Rs. 11 lakhs were seized from Zakaria, another Kozhikode resident who had arrived from Dubai, and 232 grams of gold valued at Rs. 12 lakhs were confiscated from Ijaz Ismail, a resident of Palakkad.
