Couple sells their children for Rs 74,000 to buy drugs -three nabbed

Three people, including a couple, were arrested by Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch unit on Friday for allegedly selling their children and buying drugs.

While the accused couple’s one-month-old baby girl was rescued from Andheri, the search is underway for their two-year-old son.

the three nabbed persons identified as Shabbir Khan and Sania Khan — a couple — and another man Shakeel Makrani. Also, the Crime Branch unit has detained an agent, identified as Usha Rathod, for taking commission by helping the couple to sell the children.

When Shabbir Khan’s family members came to know about their misdeed, they filed a complaint at D.N Nagar police station. The case was transferred to Crime Branch Unit.

During investigation, the Crime Branch unit found that the couple sold their two-year-old boy at Rs 60,000 and one-month-old girl at Rs 14,000.

Both Shabbir and Sania were drug addicts and cannot live without it. “A couple is addicted to drugs and to fulfill their needs, they sold their own children. As they cannot live without drugs, the couple came in contact with an agent named Usha Rathod . She helped the couple to sell their children. We have managed to rescue one-month-old girl. We are trying to find out the couple’s two-year-old son,” a senior police officer of the crime branch unit said.
